Make Your Own Ice Cream

What you need:

  • 4 cups crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup rock salt
  • 1 quart-size zip-close bag
  • 1 sandwich-size zip-close bag
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • scissors, small bowls, spoons

What to do:

1. Put 2 cups of crushed ice and 1/4 cup of rock salt into the quart-size zip-close bag. Pour the milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla into the sandwich-size bag. Seal this bag tightly.

2. Place the smaller bag inside the larger bag. Gently squeeze out the air and seal it carefully. Continue squeezing it gently for about 5 minutes.

3. Drain the water from the larger bag, and add the remaining ice and salt. Seal and squeeze until the mixture is very thick.

4. Remove the small bag from the ice and dry the outside of the bag. With scissors, cut one of the bottom corners off the small bag and squeeze the contents into small bowls. Enjoy!

Gather

  • scissors
  • sheets of colored craft foam
  • craft glue
  • foam letters
  • photos
  • magnets

Go

  1. Cut out two identical foam squares that are bigger than your photo.
  2. Cut out a smaller square from one of the first squares to create the front of your frame.
  3. Using the foam letters, glue a saying on the front of your frame: "Best Buds," "Friends Forever," "Sisters" or other words.
  4. Glue the two squares together, except for the top of the squares, where you will slide in your photo.
  5. Glue a magnet on the back of each frame and hang in a locker or on your fridge.

Handy Flowers

Gather

  • pencil
  • bright colored paper
  • pipe cleaners
  • cotton balls
  • perfume (optional)
  • scissors
  • tape

Go

  1. Trace your hand on a piece of paper, and cut it out.
  2. Tape a pipe cleaner to one side of the paper hand.
  3. Turn over the hand, and write encouraging words on each finger.
  4. Roll the hand so that the pipe cleaner is on the inside and writing is on the outside. Secure with tape to make a flower.
  5. Put a cotton ball inside the flower.
  6. For a special touch, spray perfume on the cotton ball and make leaves out of green paper.
  7. Create more flowers and give bouquets to friends, parents or grandparents!

Funny Frogs

Gather

  • 9 wooden craft sticks
  • green marker
  • glue
  • 2 googly eyes
  • black marker
  • green construction paper
  • scissors

Go

  1. Color craft sticks with a green marker.
  2.  
  3. Glue the sticks together as shown.
  4. Glue eyes onto the middle stick, and draw on a smile with the black marker.
  5. Using green construction paper, cut out webbed feet. Glue them onto the frog's legs.
  6. Cut a small rectangular piece of green construction paper. Write "Leap for the Lord" on the paper. Glue the sign to the middle part of the frog.
  7. Hang your happy hopper on your wall or from your doorknob.

Cool Can

Gather

  • can of Pringles chips (or similar can)
  • paper
  • pencil
  • stickers
  • glue
  • clothespins (optional)

Go

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry the can and lid.
  2. Wrap a piece of paer around the can to see where it will overlap, and mark it lightly with a pencil. Decorate the part of the paper that will show with stickers.
  3. Spread glue evenly on the back of the paper. Wrap the paper around the can and press down.
  4. Put clothespins around the rim to clamp the paper.
  5. Let dry and remove clothespins.
  6. Fill your can with pencils, small toys or treats. Snap on the lid to keep everything inside.

Gather

  • ruler
  • pencil
  • photo
  • white cardboard
  • scissors
  • newspaper
  • dark-colored crayons
  • paintbrush
  • black poster paint
  • tape

Go

  1. Using a ruler and pencil, draw an oval a little smaller than your photo on the piece of cardboard.
  2. Cut out the oval to use as a frame, and set your project on a piece of newspaper.
  3. Color the entire frame with the crayons, using a variety of colors and shapes.
  4. Using the paintbrush, spread a few layers of black paint over the colored frame.
  5. Let the paint dry. Then with the end of the paintbrush, scrape designs into the paint.
  6. Tape your photo to the back.
  7. Create different frames by cutting circles, ovals and squares out of the cardboard. You can even make a double frame!

 

CARROT JUICE

6 Medium carrots
1 1/2- 2 cups water
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
3 drops of mixed essence

Peel and wash the carrots.
Grate or blend the carrots. Add all the other ingredients.


MAUBY JUICE

6 pieces mauby bark
2 pieces anise or 1 tablespoon anise essence
2 bay leaves
1 piece whole spice or cinnamon

Wash mauby bark under running water
Boil mauby bark with bay leaves and cinnamon in a large pot with 1 ¼ gallon water. Boil for 25-30 minutes.
Let sit until cool
Add sugar to taste
Strain into large mug or place into clean bottle and refrigerate.


SORREL JUICE

1 packet of dried sorrel
2 pieces whole spice or cinnamon
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon mixed essence

Wash sorrel, whole cinnamon and bay leaves thoroughly under running water. Put 1 gallon water to boil in a large pot. Add sorrel, bay leaves and cinnamon. Allow to boil covered 20-25 minutes. Keep covered and allow to cool. Strain and then add sugar to taste
Serve cold.

GINGER BEER

2 large pieces of ginger
Clean and wash ginger. Grate.
Pour boiled water over grated ginger
Cover until completely cooled down.
Add vanilla and sugar to taste
Strain and serve chilled


PEANUT AND CARROT LOAF

1 cup grated carrots
1 cup strained tomatoes
1 cup bread crumbs
1 ½ tablespoon oil
1 cup course ground or chopped peanuts
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tablespoon parsley
salt to taste

Mix together all ingredients
And form into a loaf.
Place in a greased pan and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes in a 350°oven


CORN TAMALE

2 cans creamed corn
1 onion
¼ cup oil
2 cups chopped tomatoes
2 cups canned (or cooked) corn
olives if desired
¾ cup cornmeal
½ cup milk
2 eggs, well beaten
2 tablespoon butter
¼ cup cheese
salt to taste

Mince the onions and brown in the oil
Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
Bake covered for an hour in a 350° oven
When almost done remove cover and allow the top to turn slightly brown


VEGETABLE SPAGHETTI

1 box spaghetti
2 15 oz cans mixed vegetables
½ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil

Put large pot over medium heat. Cook spaghetti according to the box instructions.
Drain
Heat oil over medium heat
Add vegetables, spaghetti and soy sauce
Stir until brown
Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes
Remove from heat and serve hot

FRIED CAULIFLOWER

1-2 cauliflower
1-2 eggs
¼ cup bread crumbs

Cook the cauliflower in water until tender
Drain
Cut the cauliflower as desired
Dip into whipped egg
Cover with bread crumbs
Fry until brown
Serve warm

STEWED CHICKEN

3 lbs chicken legs
1 small onion
2 cloves of garlic
2 teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon pepper
Dash of paprika
2-3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon oil

Wash chicken
Marinate chicken in onion, salt, pepper, garlic and paprika mixture for an hour
Heat a large pan over medium heat
Add oil and sugar
When sugar is brown, add chicken
Stir chicken periodically until it is golden brown and tender
Serve


SPAGHETTI W/ CHEESE AND KETCHUP

1 box spaghetti
8 oz American cheese
8-10 teaspoon ketchup

cook spaghetti according to package instructions
Drain
Shred the cheese
In a heated pan, add spaghetti, cheese and ketchup
Stir until cheese completely melts
Serve

PEPPER RICE

2 cups rice
6 strips of each: red, green, yellow and orange pepper
¼ cup diced onions
1 tablespoon oil

Put rice in a medium sized bowl and wash.
Put into a pot of 4 cups boiling water. Cook until tender
Drain any excess water
Add 1 tablespoon oil to a heated pan
Add onions and pepper. Saute for 5 minutes
Add rice and stir
Cover for 10-15 minutes
Serve

CORN BREAD

1 can creamed sweet corn
1 can whole kernel corn
1 box corn muffin mix
2 eggs
8 ounce plain vanilla
1 tablespoon butter

Mix all ingredients together
Put into a greased pan
Bake until brown


POTATO AND CHICKEN

1 bag potatoes (5 lbs)
3 lbs chicken wings
1 large onion
¼ cup green garden seasoning (parsley, chives)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon oil
1 large foil pan
1 teaspoon gravy browning

Wash potatoes under running tap water
Cut potatoes in six parts
Put in potatoes in a bowl and sprinkle with salt and oil
Wash wing thoroughly in vinegar and water mixture
Sautee wings with garden seasoning and gravy browning
Pour potatoes in foil pan one at a time
Place wings between potatoes
Slice onion in rings and spread over the dish
Cover with foil and place in oven for 45 minutes
At 30 minutes remove cover and bake uncovered for 15 minutes until brown
HAPPY FEASTING!!!!

Potato and Pea Soup

½ lb green and yellow split peas
3 large potatoes
2 medium scallions
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 large onion
3 gloves of garlic
2 cups of water

Wash and peel potatoes. Cut in chunks. Combine potatoes and peas in a pot. Add enough water to cover the potatoes and boil until the potatoes are tender. Set aside until cool.
Combine thyme, parsley, scallion, garlic, onion and olive oil. Sautee in pot for three minutes. Combine seasoning and potatoes. Cook on low heat 15-20 minutes.
Chunky Vegetable Soup

4 celery sticks
1 onion
3 carrots
1 lb pumpkin
1 large turnip
2 large christophines
1 teaspoon olive oil
3 stems of parsley
3 gloves of garlic
3 scallions
1 vegetable cube
salt and pepper

cut up celery sticks, onion, garlic, parsley and scallions. Sautee the seasonings in a frying pan with oil. Wash and cut the vegetables into chunks. Combine vegetables and seasonings in a soup pot. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add six litters of water and cook on low-medium heat for 1 hour.

Chicken and dumpling soup

2 chicken breasts
1 1/2 – 2 cups flour
1 box frozen chopped spinach
¼ lb yellow split peas
1 chicken boullion cube
1 seasoning pepper
¼ teaspoon thyme
4 stems of parsley
3 steam of colonchou
1 head of chives
1 onion
¼ teaspoon crushed garlic
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 tablespoon Grace coconut cream
salt and pepper to taste

Marinate chicken breast overnight.
Blend garden seasonings. Steam chicken breast until tender. Set aside. Sautee seasonings in olive oil for 3-4 minutes. Add spinach, split peas and coconut cream in a pot filled with four litters of water. Boil for 30 minutes, then lower the heat. Add cube, salt and pepper. Pour flour in bowl, add a little water and knead into a dough. Then cut the dough into small pieces. Shred chicken into small pieces. Wrap each piece of chicken in the small pieces of dough, creating a ball. Add each ball in the pot of boiling soup. Simmer for 30 minutes. Serve with garlic bread.
